Specific Purpose English Language Courses

Specific Purpose English Language Courses

The current demand for English language training is not limited to General or Examination-based study. As the world of business becomes increasingly internationalised, more and more professional fields require that those who work in them have a command of the English language for use within an international context. At Wimbledon School of English we run a range of ESP courses, including tailor-made, closed group courses in the following areas:

  • Aviation
  • IELTS exam preparation
  • Finance
  • Medicine
  • The Military
  • Law
  • Oil and Gas
  • Teacher Training

If none of our existing courses suit you, one of these specially designed courses may be your best option. For further information or to discuss a possible course, please contact our Academic Director, Fiona Dunlop, via email - fiona@wimbledon-school.ac.uk

For mature students, we run the English & Culture:Experience London course three times a year. This is for students who wish to combine studying English with spending time getting to know London and British culture.

Legal English with TOLES preparation

You will work on improving all four English language skills within a legal context as well as learning specific legal terminology and how to use it appropriately. The course also includes preparation for the Test of Legal English Skills (TOLES) so there is an emphasis on the exam techniques and study strategies required to pass the exam. In addition to this, participants are expected to improve their core study skills through up to 2 hours of focused self-study each evening set by their tutors to meet their needs.

Please note: Preparation for the TOLES exam takes place in the 4th and final week of the course so you have 3 different options for study:

  • First 3 weeks only = Legal English only
  • Last  week only = TOLES Preparation only
  • All 4 weeks = Legal English + TOLES preparation

All options follow our Intensive course timetable of 28-lessons per week. You will study Monday - Thursday 09:15 - 15:45 and Friday 09:15 - 12:55 only.
