At The Wimbledon School of English, we offer three teacher development courses:
If you are interested in any of these courses, you may be eligible for full funding from a support scheme called ‘Comenius’.
This is available from the European Commission and allows teachers from any of the following countries to benefit:
EU Countries: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Czech Republic,
Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Finland, Holland, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden
EFTA / EEA: Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway.
Central and Eastern Europe: Bulgaria, Romania, Turkey.
You can apply if you are currently living in Europe, come from an eligible country and work in one of the following teaching fields:
- Teaching English as a Foreign Language
- Training teachers within the field of English Language teaching
- Re-training as a teacher of English or re-entering the profession after a period of absence
- Teaching the English Language section of the curriculum within the Primary sector
- Teaching other subjects in English, within an international environment
- Working as an inspector or educational consultant within the field of ELT
Grants cover the cost of tuition, accommodation and travel up to a maximum of 1500 euros.
How to apply for ‘Comenius’
Contact the National Agency in your country on this website:

Your National Agency will be able to provide you with an application pack and information about deadlines (which differ from country to country).
You need to obtain information about the availability of places on your chosen training course directly from the course organiser concerned.
Then submit your completed application form by the appropriate closing date to your National Agency, but make sure you include:
- Contact details for your chosen institution
- Course title and dates
- A full course description
- A brochure from your chosen institution
Teachers are normally told whether their application has been successful a maximum of six weeks before the course start date. As soon as your National Agency approves your funding, inform the course organiser who will register you for the course, providing places are still available.
