The London Exam Centre (LEC), which is a part of Wimbledon School of English (WSE), has moved to a new, larger office in Tuition House. Located just two minutes from WSE, the LEC occupies a recently refurbished space in the heart of Wimbledon and the new and improved facilities include a state of the art computer room with 16 computers. While paper-based exams still account for about 85-90% of applications, the new computer room was built to serve the growing demand for computer-based testing. The new space also includes two classrooms to be used by Wimbledon School of English.
The LEC was established in 1976 and is a test centre for Cambridge, IELTS and Pearson exams. It is the largest open centre in the UK for Cambridge Exams, coordinating around 3,500 examinations per year and processing around 9000 candidates this year!
The IELTS department has reported the a large growth in candidates. Candidates for IELTS take the speaking test at Wimbledon School of English, and the written test is taken at a larger space in Ursuline High School. Holding the exams in Wimbledon is very convenient for students that enrol in the exam Preparation courses at WSE as they study and take their exams in the same place.
